Origin of Children's Poem, Bubonic Plague

Ring a ring o'roses, a pocketful of posies, atishoo, atishoo, all fall down

A children's song that everyone as kid knew, but behind the playful singing, lies a dark origin. The posies are relating to how people during the black death would carry around flowers, hoping that the smell from them would prevent them from falling ill to the plague. The ring is relating to the sores around the mouth. Falling down relates to death.
